Hooding Instructions.save
- At the EECS Departmental Graduation, you will approach the stage with the other doctoral
candidates.
- At this point, you carry your hood draped neatly over your forearm.
- Once on the stage, your name will be called, you will receive your certificate, and you will then
proceed toward the middle of the stage, shaking faculty hands as you go.
- Your major professor will emerge from the hand-shake line. Stick one of your hands out and
rest your hood on it. The button loop at the neck of the hood should face inward, towards you.
The colored silk portion of the hood should face outward, away from you. Practice this before
you arrive!
- Your major professor will take the hood from you. Turn around and face the audience. Don’t
remove your cap (unless your major professor asks you to). Your major professor will lift the
hood over your head and place it at your collar, draping the length of the hood down your back.
(Depending on your height, you may need to stoop slightly.) Smile for the photos, and enjoy
the moment.
- Turn to face your major professor and shake hands. Again, this is a supreme photo moment.
- You will then finish crossing the stage, shaking hands as you go, and head down the stairs to
get off the stage. You then return to your seat
