This year, OSU AIAA is competing in the annual Cessna/Raytheon DBF student competition for the third time. In this competition student teams will design, fabricate, and demonstrate the flight capabilities of an unmanned, electric powered, radio controlled aircraft which can best meet the specified mission profile. The goal is a balanced design possessing good demonstrated flight handling qualities and practical and affordable manufacturing requirements while providing a high vehicle performance.

ESRA Student Rocketry Competition
Experimental Sounding Rocketry Association
ESRA at Oregon State is an advanced competition rocket team that designs, builds and tests a new rocket every year. This year's competition will be held at Spaceport America in New Mexico this June. At the competition our team will target an altitude of 30,000 ft AGL and will be scored on altitude, payload innovation and team presentation.The team is comprised of a propulsion, payload, aerodynamics & recovery and structures sub-team. The core members of the team are Capstone senior design students but this huge task needs members of all levels to help research, design and manufacture various components of the rocket.

RockSat-X
RockSat-X is a program designed for students to get experience in the astronautic industry. We will be working with the Colorado Space Grant Consortium,a NASA funded organization, to design, manufacture, test, and launch a scientific payload for a sounding rocket. Our payload needs to fit inside an envelope size of 12" diameter and 5.13" in height. It will be launched from Wallops Island in June of 2017 where it will embark on a 20 hour flight reaching an apogee of 200 km before re-entering earth's atmosphere to be recovered. The team plans for the payload to be a robotic arm to execute a TBD function while in low earth orbit (LEO). As of now the team is still in the design phase and is narrowing down possible design directions. For those interested in getting involved, there is currently the possibility of weighing in on design decisions and later there will be ample opportunity to help in the manufacturing phase. 
 
Weekly meetings are Thursdays at 6pm in KEAR 305, with some meetings being held at BEXL 102 due to room reservation conflicts.

Hybrid Rocket
The Hybrid Rocket is a project OSU AIAA started in 2014 as a first step towards a liquid rocket engine. To date, we have successfully designed, built, launched and recovered a hybrid rocket which flew to a height of 5349 feet AGL. Through this project, students gain experience in composites, sub-cryogenic fluids handling, manufacturing and advanced rocket propulsion. For 2016-2017, our goal is to launch a hybrid rocket to a altitude of 10,000 feet AGL. To enhance safety, the rocket will be capable of executing all oxidizer fill procedures and launch procedures remotely via a radio telemetry link.
 
Weekly meetings are Wednesdays at 6:00pm in Rogers 226.
