EESS

The Ecological Engineering Student Society (EESS) was founded in 2009 by students of the Ecological Engineering program at Oregon State University. Since then, we have taken over a greenhouse, created an aquaponics system, gained a plot of land for agrivoltaics projects, and hosted numerous field trips and guest speakers. Check out more of our projects here, or see the membership page to sign up. All who are interested in the field are welcome (no need to be an ecological engineering major or have any experience), and OSU students are strongly encouraged to participate!

The Biological and Ecological Engineering Program at OSU

Ecological Engineering is the design of sustainable systems consistent with ecological principles that integrate human activities into the natural environment to the benefit of both. In 2007, Oregon State became the first university in the nation to offer this kind of degree program at the undergraduate level. It is a joint venture between the College of Engineering and the College of Agricultural Sciences. As of Fall 2021, there are approximately 100 students enrolled in the undergraduate program. More information on the Ecological Engineering undergraduate program is available from the department website.

Meetings

We meet every other week of the academic year (beginning the second week of each term) in Gilmore Hall 234 to discuss projects, outreach, fundraising, and other opportunities for our club. Each term we take one field trip and host one guest speaker.*

*Due to COVID-19 we are often adapting our meeting times and places. For the most up to date information please refer to the Google Calendar posted here
