Global Formula Racing is an international cooperation between students from Oregon State University (OSU) and Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg-Ravensburg (DHBW). The beginning of our unique global venture started in 2009. We share physical and intellectual resources by using advanced communication-technology to create two highly competitive vehicles that participate in Formula SAE competitions in both the United States and Europe. Design, manufacturing, and testing occur simultaneously at both schools, over 9 time zones and 8770 kilometers apart. Our team goal is to win competitions, which we do through a philosophy of simplicity, reliability and simulation validated by physical testing. GFR prides itself on its ability to give each member the chance to demonstrate their technical analysis, engineering design and manufacturing skills all under the pressure of having to meet a strict deadline. Students learn valuable lessons along the way in teamwork, time management, project management, budgeting and presentation which are all skills employers look for when hiring. Many of our industry sponsors seek out students who have worked on our team. This year we will be completing two identical electric vehicles and a modular driverless system that can be installed in either vehicle in under 2 hours. In 2021, we plan on attending FSAE California, FS Germany and FS Spain.
