Club Description

Society of Manufacturing Engineers is a nonprofit association of professionals, educators and students committed to promoting and supporting the manufacturing industry. Here at Oregon State University, we host the local chapter for SME where we provide college students with a community to create industry connections, gain technical knowledge and grow professionally in manufacturing. As a club, we host numerous events that encourage networking and building knowledge on the manufacturing industry. An example of an event we host is Snack and Study, a place where any student can come and do homework with SME members. This is a great place to meet new students and even get help on some engineering homework. Another example of an event we do is industry tours. In the past years we have visited companies like Boeing, Danner, and ATAMI(Advanced Technology and Manufacturing Institute). We also do events like “Get to Know Your Professor,” where students will get to talk with MIME professors about their research and what they like about their job. SME is not only an event-based club, but we also help students of all engineering majors earn SME scholarships! These scholarships are ranging from $1000-$40000 and are sponsored by the national SME group. Lastly, SME is a very inclusive club and we encourage ALL students of ALL majors to join our great club!
