One of the first projects that attracts attention from both new and returning ASME members is our annual pumpkin chunkin competition. Our club hosts high schools around the area to build a pumpkin launching machine (such as a catapult) and see if they can beat us. This is a great project to get new members involved as we traditionally built our device out of wood so members who don't yet have their machine shop certifications can be involved in design and manufacturing.
