We have decided to have meeting times this term on Wednesdays from 4-5pm in Johnson 221. Our first meeting will be on week 3 and Dr. Herman will be presenting on his research. In addition, Dr. Herman will give us a tour of his lab and will show us the new ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS)!

The structure, composition, chemical and electronic states of surfaces and interfaces are of interest for many applications, such as catalysis, corrosion, adhesion, semiconductor and dielectric materials, and magnetic media. Surface characterization is used in a wide variety of industries including, automotive, aerospace, electronics, healthcare, and petrochemical.In this presentation, I will give an overview of a new ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) system that OSU has recently received, and afterwards will lead a short laboratory tour.
