Overview
The OSU ANS Winter Conference is an annual event held in February where OSU students may present on topics of interest in nuclear science, engineering, and policy. This page will address details, deadlines for presenters, and how this conference relates to the national ANS Student Conference.
When & Where
The Winter Conference is held on a Saturday in February in the Memorial Union building.
Presenting
Presentations can be given in powerpoint presentation or poster format. Powerpoint presentations will run 15 minutes, with an additional 5 minutes for audience questions. Posters will be shown during a poster session.
Posters should be printed at the library media hub a week before the conference since it can take a couple days for them to be printed. This can be done for free if you specify that it is for a club activity. More information can be found here: https://undergradresearch.oregonstate.edu/how-print-your-poster
Presenting students must dress professionally. The recommendation is business casual.
Itinerary
The conference usually begins around 10:00am and ends between 3:00 and 5:00 pm.
Judges
Presentations are judged by faculty and industry professionals. Rubrics and feedback are given to presenters after the conference.
Funding for National Student Conference
For OSU ANS to fund your travel to the national ANS Student Conference, you must present at the Winter Conference (powerpoint or poster). You are not required to go to the Student Conference if you present at the Winter Conference.
Extra Credit
It is common for a couple NSE classes to offer extra credit to students who attend or present at the conference.
