What can you expect from a year of ANS at OSU?
The main type of activity we host is a general meeting. Each term (Fall, Winter, Spring) there will be three general meetings, ocurring preferentially in Weeks 3, 6, and 9 of the term. Meetings are typically held Wednesday evenings, but times may be subject to change so it is best to be on our mailing list or keep up-to-date by checking our Instagram page. Each general meeting will have a main section where club announcements are shared, and there is often an additional section of the meeting that features information on a specific topic within nuclear. In the past these have included panels speaking about internships, research opportunities, and graduate school. Dinner is also provided.
In addition, we hold road cleanups once each term. These involve a short trip to a local road and cleaning of litter on the road. Road cleanups are generally held on Saturdays and estimated to take about two hours.
Another major focus of our chapter is the ANS National Student Conference, held annually in Early April. All interested students are invited to submit abstracts, and those accepted will have their travel to the conference paid for with our funding. In preparation for this, we also hold a Winter Conference locally in February. Participation in the OSU ANS Winter Conference is required to attend the National Student Conference. For more information visit https://www.ans.org/meetings/cfp/view-student2025/ and be on the lookout for announcements over email.
We also hold miscellaneous social events when able. These vary by term and have previously included paintball, cookie baking, and presentation night.
